Creating more heart related poetry illustrations - PROJECT 3

Undated

This is the poem I am focusing on for these illustrations:

Messy Eater

My tears in your mug,

‘Just a little taste’

Lick off your spoon

Cut my tongue from my face.

Your hand on the plate

It’s cold and you’re warm.

‘But you might need it.’

‘My love needs it more.’

Start on the thumb

Bite through the vein,

You smile as I chew

Clean off one more nail.

Strip you away

You’re only bones

Don’t want to finish

I want to atone.

‘You are my hand’

‘I don’t understand.’

‘You bite what feeds you.’

‘You fed me your hand.’

‘You’re getting ungrateful.’

‘But you demand-’

‘Oh, you made a mess.’

‘I swallowed, it’s gone.’

My dishcloth soul,

You wring it dry

Drink your dirty water

Wash down the lie.

Mop up my crumbs

Open my mouth

You’re stuck in my teeth

I knew you’d taste foul.

- after recieving more poetry, the poetry within the zine is now focusing on betrayal and abusive relationships too - this means I will have to alter the title of my zine book perhaps
- with this illustration, I looked at an abusive relationship
- it features a heart that is drawn more realistically, with cartoon hands being wrapped around it holding a knife - this pair of hands is owned by the same person
- there is also blood to show the hurt that the owner of these hands has caused
- after a tutorial, it was made clear that the hands arent noticeable as hands and I agree with this!

- I made the hands more realistic and I definitely prefer how this now looks
- the colour scheme works really well too
- having the hands the same colour as the outline of the heart creates a link between the two

- after a tutorial, it was also mentioned that the hands wrapped around makes it look like a snake
- I decided to create a snake pattern on the hands and arms but not making it TOO obvious that it is a snake as I want it to be subtle
- I think this works really well and delivers a clear message

- I also tried a more realistic take on the abusive relationship poetry and decided to create an illustration of a heart being squeezed by a set of hands - owned by the same individual
- this shows that despite the heart looking normal, the places where this individual has been, it is not normal and damaged
- the colour around where the heart is beign squeezed is a bit more pale and discoloured compaired to the rest - this symbolises what this individual has done to the lover
- despite the deeper meaning, I do not think I will progress with this drawing as it does not fit with the style I have been doing and I do not think it is emotional enough - it was also quite difficult to draw!
