Creating a prototype of my book - PROJECT 1

Image
Creating a prototype of my book - PROJECT 1 - very happy with this prototype! - I wanted to see how many pages there would be altogether and what adjustments I can make - upon creating this prototype, I have found a few edits to make which include moving imagery around so it is more even - I am happy with the size of the text though (besides the 'About me' section but this can also be altered) - printed this in black and white as I wanted to preserve my coloured printer ink - I have also found that having a mini book this size (A6) is quite fun and works well for the book itself. I might possibly increase the size to A5 though however - My next steps would be to alter these illustrations and then get in contact with Jim and see if I can print these professionally - perhaps a glossy style paper? Not sure yet! - I think having this prototype will also be great for when I see Jim as I can show him what I want to do - depending on how I print this I may need to quickly create a sp...

Creating introduction pages - PROJECT 1

Image
Creating introduction pages - PROJECT 1 Brooke Barker's 'How to create your own sad animal facts' - upon research, I stumbled across Brooke Barker's guide to creating sad animal facts (she is the creator of the sad animal facts book I researched into) - this is helpful to see the creative process and to help me with creating my own book 'All my friends are dead' - Avery Monsen and Jory John - looking at this book, there is no introduction page properly explaining the contents, however, there is a lot of creativity page wise - I will more than likely create a patterned page between the title and introduction pages - probably have to make this landscape so it can glue across the whole inside of the book for an inside page - happy with the colour choice - contrasts nicely to the front but also relates to the yellow splodge behind the title - these are subject to change but I like how straightforward they are - has a bit of humour inside it - altered positioning of ...

Creating my own book samples through book binding - PROJECT 1

Image
Creating my own book samples through book binding - PROJECT 1 - love the size of the book - almost like a pocket edition - however, the way this book is made there is no spine so the book is constantly open - ofcourse when I finish all my illustrations, I will understand how many pages are needed, however, for these prototypes I just guessed an amount - need to figure out what paper I would use - also will be experimenting with more book binding - this one uses staples and a glue gun - this book works much better as it has a spine - it closes easier and also is not constantly open - definitely would use this approach to my book but still need to experiment more - this uses only a glue gun - need to research more into book binding and figure out which is best - only experimented with a small book and pages as this would use less resources and I can see what the book would look like when printed as A6 - did research into having the book printed professionally but would have to do even mo...

Further artist research - PROJECT 3

Image
Further artist research - PROJECT 3 Lorraine Sorlet - I love the simplicity of these illustrations - dumbs down love to its meaning - I need to start doing this and simplifying my work but also associating it with the poetry provided - my aim is to create a zine full of poetry and illustrations associated with love - perhaps having a similar approach to this artist will make it easier for me - simple yet effective - can understand the emotions being felt through such a simple and straightforward illustration - colour is also simple - could take note of this? I enjoyed doing the simple colours in my previous heart illustration Courtney L Ellis - once again, simple art work yet very effective - I want to take note of the simplicity and apply it to my own work - capturing love in such a raw form - but really communicate it with the audience like these - captures love in raw forms - transparent - sets the scene - colours used effectively and also minimal - the art style is very consistent ...

Further artist research - PROJECT 1

Further artist research - PROJECT 1 All my friends are dead - Avery Monsen - I love the humour in this book - the contrast on each page is unique and creative - the word play is also clever - the illustrations are simple and assist the text - the facial expressions of the characters also fit really well with the text - it is all fluent and consistent throughout the book - I should possibly take note of the layout Sad animal facts - Brooke Barker - very similar to what I am doing - however, I am doing positives and negatives rather than just negatives - I love the speech bubbles with each illustration, funny and makes a positive out of a negative in a sense - very rough and drawn in a unique way - similar to my style - would love to read this book it seems very interesting - solid white background similar to mine - brings attention to the main illustrations  Funny Bums, Freaky beaks - Alex Morss and Sarah Edmonds  - layout is very similar in the sense of partnering facts togeth...
